Bishop Donald J. Hying
Bishop Donald J. Hying is the Fifth Bishop of Madison, Wisconsin, installed in June 2019. Born in West Allis, Wisconsin, in 1963, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1989. He served in parishes across Milwaukee and as a missionary in the Dominican Republic, later becoming the dean of formation and rector of St. Francis de Sales Seminary. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named him Auxiliary Bishop of Milwaukee; in 2015 he became the Fourth Bishop of Gary, Indiana; and in 2019 Pope Francis appointed him to Madison. Bishop Hying serves on the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities and the boards of Catholic Relief Services and Relevant Radio, and he chairs the boards of the Institute on Religious Life and the St. Paul Evangelization Society.
