Bishop Donald J. Hying

Bishop Donald J. Hying is the Fifth Bishop of Madison, Wisconsin, installed in June 2019. Born in West Allis, Wisconsin, in 1963, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1989. He served in parishes across Milwaukee and as a missionary in the Dominican Republic, later becoming the dean of formation and rector of St. Francis de Sales Seminary. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named him Auxiliary Bishop of Milwaukee; in 2015 he became the Fourth Bishop of Gary, Indiana; and in 2019 Pope Francis appointed him to Madison. Bishop Hying serves on the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities and the boards of Catholic Relief Services and Relevant Radio, and he chairs the boards of the Institute on Religious Life and the St. Paul Evangelization Society. On Things Visible and Invisible, he brings a pastor's heart and a lifetime of faith to conversations on life, culture, history, and the love of Jesus Christ.

Fr. David Carrano

Fr. David Carrano is the pastor of the St. Paul University Catholic Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a return to the place where his own faith took root. As a UW-Madison student, he encountered the love of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church and made St. Paul's his second home, and it was during his senior year that he first felt the call to the priesthood. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Madison in 2010 and served in six parish assignments over the following 15 years, most recently at Christ the King Pastorate in Monroe and Belleville and Good Shepherd Parish in Madison, before returning to campus ministry.

Matt Regner is a chemist, husband, and father of five who lives in Fitchburg and worships at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison. He spent 10 years working in ministry in the Diocese of Madison, including serving in the diocese's Office of Marriage and Family.

Tristan Borland is the Associate Director of Marriage and Family Ministries for the Diocese of Madison. He and his wife, Jill, are converts to Catholicism. Before converting, Tristan served as an Evangelical pastor for 20 years in Minnesota and Michigan. Tristan and Jill have had seven children, and they moved to Madison in 2025.
